How to Connect Your Custom Domain with a Subdomain

To run successful online ad campaigns, it’s essential to have your landing pages published through your own custom domain. This not only enhances your brand’s credibility but also complies with the requirements of major advertising platforms like Google, Meta, and Bing. This guide will walk you through the process of connecting your custom subdomain with Webfluss.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, ensure you have:

  • A Webfluss account.
  • Ownership of a custom domain (e.g., yourdomain.com).
  • Access to your domain registrar or DNS hosting provider’s control panel.

Adding Your Custom Subdomain in Webfluss

Note: This process is only applicable to subdomains (e.g., page.yourdomain.com). Naked domains (e.g., yourdomain.com) are not supported at this time.

  1. Log in to Webfluss:

    • Access your Webfluss account and navigate to the Dashboard.
  2. Select Your Website:

    • Choose the website you want to connect the subdomain to from your list of websites.
  3. Navigate to Domains:

    • Click on the Domains tab in the main menu.
  4. Initiate Domain Connection:

    • Click the Connect Own Domain button.
  5. Enter Your Subdomain:

    • In the Your Domain Name field, enter your desired subdomain.
      • Example: If your root domain is example.com, enter page.example.com.
  6. Proceed to Connect:

    • Click the Connect button.
  7. Obtain DNS Records:

    • After entering your subdomain, Webfluss will provide two DNS records:
      • CNAME Record: Connects your subdomain to the Webfluss platform.
      • Ownership Validation Record: Typically a TXT record used to verify domain ownership and ensure proper SSL configuration.
  8. Copy DNS Record Details:

    • CNAME Record:
      • Hostname: Your subdomain (e.g., page).
      • Point To: A unique value provided by Webfluss (e.g., proxy-ssl.webfluss.com).
      • Important: The Point To value is case-sensitive; copy it exactly as shown.
    • Ownership Validation Record:
      • Type: TXT
      • Hostname: Typically @ or a specific prefix provided by Webfluss.
      • Value: A unique token provided by Webfluss (e.g., validation_token_12345).
  9. Finalize Connection:

    • Click the Finish button.
    • Your subdomain will appear in the list with a Pending status.

Configuring Your DNS Settings

To connect your subdomain to Webfluss, you’ll need to add both the CNAME and Ownership Validation DNS records in your DNS settings.

Accessing Your DNS Manager

  1. Log in to Your Domain Registrar:

    • Access your domain registrar’s account (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare).
  2. Navigate to DNS Management:

    • Go to the DNS Management or Domain Settings section for your domain.

Creating a CNAME Record

  1. Add a New CNAME Record:

    • Type: CNAME
    • Host/Name: Enter the Hostname you copied (e.g., page).
    • Value/Points to: Enter the Point To value provided by Webfluss (e.g., proxy-ssl.webfluss.com).
    • TTL: Set to default or the lowest possible value (e.g., 3600 seconds).
  2. Save the CNAME Record.

Creating an Ownership Validation Record

  1. Add a New TXT Record:

    • Type: TXT
    • Host/Name: As specified by Webfluss (commonly @ or a specific subdomain).
    • Value: Enter the Ownership Validation token provided by Webfluss (e.g., validation_token_12345).
    • TTL: Set to default or the lowest possible value (e.g., 3600 seconds).
  2. Save the TXT Record.

Double-Check Your DNS Entries

  • CNAME Record:

    • Ensure the Host and Point To values are entered correctly.
    • Confirm there are no typos and that the Point To value matches exactly, including case sensitivity.
  • TXT Record:

    • Verify that the Host and Value are accurate.
    • Ensure no extra spaces or characters are present.

Waiting for DNS Propagation

  • Propagation Time: DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes up to 72 hours to propagate globally.
  • What to Do: Wait at least 2 hours before proceeding to the next step.
  • Tip: DNS propagation times vary by provider; patience is essential.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • DNS Changes Not Detected:

    • Wait a few more hours and try verifying your domain again.
    • Use online DNS propagation tools (e.g., WhatsMyDNS) to check if your DNS records have updated globally.
  • Incorrect DNS Entries:

    • Ensure there are no conflicting records for your subdomain (e.g., existing A records).
    • Confirm that you’ve entered the correct Hostname and Value for both CNAME and TXT records.
  • Page Not Loading After Publishing:

    • Clear your browser cache and cookies.
    • Try accessing your site from a different network or device.
  • Ownership Validation Failure:

    • Double-check the Ownership Validation Record (TXT record) for accuracy.
    • Ensure there are no extra spaces or incorrect characters in the TXT value.
  • Case Sensitivity:

    • Remember that the Point To value in the CNAME record may be case-sensitive. Copy it exactly as provided by Webfluss.
